Second Servings Food Distribution Volunteers
Good nutrition is important at any age, and never more so than in later years. A healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean meat or fish, and starches such as brown rice or whole-grain pasta helps provide seniors with the nutrients they need.
However, staying healthy and eating well isn’t always easy for seniors. The Montrose Center’s SPRY Program, Seniors Preparing for Rainbow Years, is seeking energetic volunteers who are willing to donate their time, self, and energy in assisting our senior community members.
Once a month, local grocery stores donate their surplus food to Law Harrington, and we create a "grocery store" for our residents and SPRY participants. Jobs include unloading donation boxes, helping seniors to shop / carry their bags, helping seniors learn about new ingredients, and bringing joy and positivity!
Food arrives around 11AM, shopping begins at 1PM, and tear down should finish by 3PM (often before).
